Hiya!
The purpose of this blog is to document my travels around the United States and elsewhere throughout 2026. The bulk of my adventures will be part of a cross-country road trip stretching from 27 March to approximately 7 September. Updates will come in the form of posts, photos, stories, anecdotes, remberings, misrememberings, ramblings, stammerings, yammerings, waxings philosophical, deviations illogical, nonsequiturs probable, and prose insufferable. It’ll be like I never left home at all! 💙
I hope to update the blog weekly as time and Internet access permit, although I am sure my updates will drift in time as the summer goes on, much like they did in 2023. I hope you enjoy following along; don’t forget to text or call me and say hi every once in a while!
FAQs:
Where you going?
Everywhere!
Okay not literally everywhere, but I am traveling all over the lower 48.
What’s Your Itinerary?
I have a list of things to see and a rough order in which to see them, but I only have dates pinned down for about half of those items (my plans are also subject to change as weather and campground availability permit). That being said, here is a rough outline of where I plan to be and when:
27 March to the Mid-April: traveling west across the south, starting in Virginia and ending up I
Mid-April to Early June: New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and southern California. I will cross into what I consider to be “the west” when I drive over the Sacramento Mountains in New Mexico.
Early June to Early July: Cali, baby. I’ll be seeing SoCal, the Sierras, the PCH, and the Bay Area through June 21st, then NorCal after that.
Early July to Mid-July: Pacific Northwest of Oregon and Washington
Mid-July to Mid-August: Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.
Mid-August to Labor Day: a few spots in the Great Plains followed by sights in Minnesota and Michigan.
How will you be traveling?
I’m taking the same car I had in 2023. I’ll be camping most of the way, but I won’t turn down a real bed if offered! I also plan to use a variety of hostels along the way.
Can I meet up with you?
Heck yeah, I’d love that! Text or call me and let’s work something out!
Did you really quit your job to do this?
Yes! I mean, I was going to quit the job anyways, but I timed it out to allow for this road trip.
Isn’t that nerve-wracking?
There’s never a perfect time to quit your job, only times that are more or less advantageous. I know in my heart of hearts that it was the right time to quit; that decision was driven by dire factors about the job itself, not my desire to go traveling again. Call or text me if you’d like more information.
What’s your favorite color?
Blue! Specifically the color of blue that appears in Lapis Lazuli gemstones.
What National Parks are you Visiting?
In order: Great Smokey Mountains, Guadalupe Mountains, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands, Mesa Verde, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Zion (Southern Utah is SPOILED for National Parks), Great Basin, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Channel Islands, Sequoia/Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Pinnacles (the southern half of California is similarly spoiled), Redwoods, Lassen Volcanic, Crater Lake, Olympic, North Cascades, Glacier, Yellowstone, Teton, Rocky Mountain, Great Sand Dunes, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Teddy Roosevelt, Three Affiliated Tribes, Voyageurs, and Isle Royale.
Really? No Grand Canyon?
Listen, man, I’ve been three times. It’s a big hole in the ground. A great hole. A grand hole, even! But I’ve seen it enough. I might go to the North Rim if it’s open.
Why are there two “About” pages?
I originally started this blog for a similar road trip I took between jobs in 2023. I want to keep the original info and details from that trip intact, so you’ll see frequent references to that trip throughout this website.
In terms of posts, the events of 2023 run through the post “Epilogue” while 2026 begins with “Prologue Again”.
I hope you enjoy following my adventures!
